Our pastor was born to Daniel D. and Annie Belle (Leggett) Hendricks.
He was raised in Chicago, IL, where he received his early education graduating from Hyde Park High School.
He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Little Mercy Seat Baptist Church, Chicago.IL.
In 1969 he moved to Ypsilanti, MI, where he worked for 35 years at GM retiring as a journeyman pipe-fitter.
He united with the St. John M.B.Church in 1970. He was an active member of the Brotherhood and choir. In 1996 he accepted his call into the ministry under the leadership of Rev. Harvey E. Leggett and was ordained in 1998.
In October 2003 he was chosen to lead St. John after the death of Rev. Leggett.

He holds a basic and advanced bible certificate from William Tyndale Bible College. He has obtained five certificates from WHW Ministries Expository Preaching Conference in Los Angeles, CA ; he holds a Bachelor and Master of Theology degree from the Tennessee School of Religion, Detroit extension.He has been conferred a Doctor of Humane Letters as well as Doctor of Divinity degree.
Pastor Hendricks is the president of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Michigan and formally held the position of Recording Secretary and Treasurer; He is the former First Vice-Moderator of the Eastern Progressive Baptist District Association of Detroit and Vicinity, former President of the Sunday School and B.T.U. Congress; Former President and VP of the Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor Ministerial Alliance and an active supporter of the Ypsilanti community.
Pastor Hendricks is married to the former Lynoris Hicks-Nathan, together they have five children, Chandra, Angela, James Jr., Khalisha and Khalis. They have eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
